Empower Your Child by Guiding Rather Than Telling

Be a partner that guides rather than tells. Offer your child choices and let him decide what they feel will work best. For example, if the goal is to get your child to track their homework independently, brainstorm with them the many ways they can do this. They could do it in a traditional assignment book, on a self-designed print-out placed in the front of a binder, or via an app on their device. It’s most important that they are tracking their homework rather than exactly how they are tracking it. By empowering your child to choose the strategy that they feel will work best for them, they will take far more ownership of the process and work harder to make it successful.
