Lesson in self-advocacy on Labor Day

Labor Day provides an opportunity to teach your child about the importance of advocating for herself, her friends, and her classmates. Many years ago, hardworking Americans fought for many of the rights we take for granted today: safer working conditions, an eight-hour work day, a 40-hour workweek, and more. The efforts of workers so many years ago continue to make a difference today. It’s never too early to teach your child that advocating for herself and those around her (whether it’s to garner more support from her teachers, a quieter workspace, or a new “bullying” policy) is a skill that will serve her well throughout her life.
