Tip of the Week
Overwhelmed? Create a checklist
When your child is overwhelmed, help her create a checklist of all the things she needs to do to help her regain a sense of control.
- Write it all down. Get everything she needs to do out of her head (and assignment book and online portal) and down onto paper (or whiteboard).
- Prioritize the list. What needs to be accomplished now (and why) and what can move further down the list (and why)?
- Break each of the tasks down into component parts to make the tasks far less overwhelming than she originally anticipated.
- Get started! Once she begins to cross items off her list she’ll start feeling more accomplished and in control.
