Preview schedules to support executive function

To help with flexibility and transitions, as well as planning and time management, take a few minutes to review your child’s weekly (and/or monthly) schedule with him early on in the school year. By previewing his schedule ahead of time, you’re giving him the opportunity to take ownership, ask questions, and get a sense of what’s in store day to day and week to week. Previewing the calendar will likely result in less anxiety, too. To help him better track his upcoming day, you may choose to post a family calendar someplace central where he can review it each morning. Consider using a dry-erase board. The ability to make changes will provide extra practice in being flexible.
