Previewing The Exam Helps The Student Regain Control

There’s no rule that students have to start an exam on question number one. At the start of the exam, students should take a few minutes to preview the format and devise a plan of how best to allot their time and move through it. For example, some students may choose to get the multiple choice questions done so they can focus on the essays; others may want to start with the essays. Choosing where to begin and how to distribute their time gives the student a sense of control over the exam (rather than the other way around). It also helps ensure the student is thoughtfully attacking the exam and giving themselves the best chance at success.
