The tough get going

“When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” When things get tough (or are more difficult than we originally imagined) students have two choices: Dig in, ask good questions, and get the job done. Back off, find reasons not to move forward, and fall back into their comfort zone. We learn and grow by pushing forward through the tough times. Doing so takes a fair amount of self-confidence. To help your child over the hurdle, start by letting him know you believe in him and underscore that you know he has the ability to do virtually anything he sets his mind to. And then guide and support him through those challenging moments step by step. He can do it; he may just need a little nudge to push forward into the unknown.
